One of UK’s ‘poshest suburbs’ where you can buy a property for £160k | UK | News

    May 31, 20253 Mins Read

Stoke Bishop is one of the UK’s poshest suburbs and its house prices are a clear reflection of that. With an average property price of £832,090 and some homes being sold for upwards of £2million, the suburb is a hotspot for premium real estate.

However, those wishing to live in the area – which according to The Telegraph is one of Britain’s poshest – but don’t want to fork out premium prices may be in luck as potential buyers can bag a property for as low as £160k. Currently for sale on Rightmove is a spacious one bedroom apartment within walking distance to a range of shops and amenities of Stoke Bishop. The ground floor apartment on Tunstall Close is just 0.7 miles from Sea Mill Station which can take you into the hub of Bristol in just over 20 minutes.

Also currently on the market in Stoke Bishop is a charming grade II listed duplex apartment. Located in a tranquil part of Stoke Bishop of the highly sought after area of Sneyd Park this one bedroom apartment is on the market for £220k. Arranged over two floors, Sneyd Park boasts wide tree lined avenues and rare traffic, it is just a short drive from Clifton and Bristol City Centre.

Luther Yeates, head of mortgages at Orton Financial, explained how there are still a few postcodes which “offer a way into this sought-after area without needing a multi-million-pound budget”.

She said: “Although Stoke Bishop has a reputation for high-end properties, there are still pockets where buyers can get in at a slightly lower price point. Some postcodes offer a way into this sought-after area without needing a multi-million-pound budget.

“Buying property in the area is not just about prestige or exclusivity. Many families are drawn to Stoke Bishop’s excellent schools, like Clifton College and Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital, as well as access to open green spaces like The Downs and Blaise Castle Estate. Even though it’s a pretty quiet area, there’s a strong sense of community, and it’s well-connected to the city centre, making it an ideal location for people looking for that suburban feel without compromising on accessibility.”

Known for its stunning Georgian houses and excellent schools, research by Orton Financial using Land Registry data covering January 2020 to December 2024, also found which streets offer homes for well under the area’s average price.

The most affordable postcode in the area is BS9 1LZ, the data shows, where properties have sold for an average of £440,000 across three recorded sales.

Nearby, BS9 1JT recorded an average price of £506,667 across three sales, while other Downleaze postcodes, such as BS9 1LU and BS9 1NA, saw average prices of £523,300 and £554,669, respectively, across eight sales each.
