Below, we look at if the stock market is open during Easter and how it will impact trading on those days.

Is the stock market open on Easter?

No. The UK stock market is closed on Easter, which falls on Monday, 21 April.

This is part of the eight standard holidays observed by the stock exchange in the year, including Christmas Day.

The London Stock Exchange observes English and Welsh bank holidays – not Scottish or Northern Irish holidays. For instance, Easter Monday is a bank holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland but not in Scotland — however, it’s a non-trading day for the stock market.

The UK stock market is also shut on Friday, 18 April for Good Friday, which means the trading will cease for four consecutive days during the spring holiday period.

Investors can spend this extended holiday with their families and friends, or sort out their finances for the fiscal year ahead. Many bills are going up in April, including energy prices, household bills and taxes, so it’s a good idea to make sure you’re well-prepared ahead of time.
