Great Plains Food Bank introduces Commodity Gifting Program to aid in hunger relief | The Mighty 790 KFGO

    October 24, 20242 Mins Read

The Great Plains Food Bank is proud to offer a commodity gifting program, called Grow, Give & Gain, a unique opportunity for farmers and ranchers to support hunger relief through the donation of agricultural commodities. This new avenue for charitable giving can help reduce producers tax burden and help to provide food to 185 different pantries, shelters, and soup kitchens serving the people of North Dakota and Clay County, Minnesota.

“Commodity gifting has allowed us to make tax-exempt donations while still retaining our standard deduction. It has been an integral part of our business and tax planning for more than a decade. We are excited to use this option to support the great work done by the Great Plains Food Bank,” said Clair and Jennifer Hauge, North Dakota ranchers and long-time supporters of the Great Plains Food Bank.

This program makes it simple for individuals and businesses to give back to their community while also benefiting from possible important tax advantages. Farmers and ranchers can donate commodities ensuring that their gift makes the maximum impact for neighbors living with food insecurity. The Great Plains Food Bank provides step-by-step guidance to make the process as seamless as possible.

“Great Plains Food Bank has established a wonderful program to make the acceptance of commodity gifts very convenient and easy,” shared Kwadwo T. Mensah, Vice President and Senior Wealth Advisor of Bremer Wealth.

Last year, 1 in 6 people in North Dakota and Clay County, MN received food from the Great Plains Food Bank and their partner agencies – and 1 in 4 were kids. Together, our communities can work towards a future where neighbors are nourished, communities are strong, and systems ensure no one is left behind.
