Liberty Utilities seeks monthly increase, explains costs to public

    August 29, 20241 Min Read

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Missouri Public Service Commission hosted a public hearing regarding a proposed rate increase by Liberty Utilities Midstates Natural Gas Corporation on Wednesday.

Community members had the opportunity to make public comments and ask Liberty leaders about the raise.

The utility company filed for a rate increase that would cost an estimated $15 more a month or a 20.6% increase for residents living in northeast Missouri.

Liberty Utilities Midstates Natural Corp. Gas President Mike Beatty told KTVO how the money will be spent.

“That’s the dollars that help us pay for the meter reading or the infrastructure that we have in the ground, or accounting, billing or customer service,” Beatty said. “So it’s that piece that we’re asking for today.”

The Missouri Public Service Commission told KTVO that they are continuing to hear resident concerns across the state.

The decision on the increase isn’t expected to be made until early December.

Beatty told KTVO that the increase would then be seen on residents’ bills in January or February.

To hear about the public’s concern about the rate increase, tune into KTVO News at 6 on Thursday.
