Shares of power producers ticked up as traders chased gains in the sector.
Outside of precious metals and utilities, most defensive sectors have lagged the broad market this year, said one strategist.
“That’s clearly due to energy demand growing [because of] AI, and that goes hand in hand with communications and technology,” said J.D. Joyce, president of Houston financial advisory Joyce Wealth Management.
