United Utilities are this morning continuing to work to repair a burst water pipe that caused a major flood in a residential area in Burnley last night.
Teams worked through the night after the incident in Sycamore Avenue, which saw the road flooded with water at least two or three feet deep.
A spokesman for United Utilities said: “We have a team on site today and they are working closely with Burnley Council to remove some street furniture so we can safely carry out further works to the pipe.”

The flood affected around 2,000 properties in the area who were left without water for several hours after the burst occurred at around 6pm. Fortunately the flood did not impact any properties. The United Utilities spokesman added: “We want to apologise to customers impacted by the loss of water, and we thank them for their patience.”
The road has been closed to traffic and drivers are advised to avoid the area.
