SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Due to continued foundation issues, Sioux City council members are looking to replace the current utilities field office building.
The project includes the construction of a new garage with office space. Engineers estimate the new building to cost around $10 million. The new building would be built across the street from the existing central maintenance garage on 18th Street. That keeps the convenience of the fuel station next to where fuel tanks are located.

After discussion, the council voted 4-0 to approve the plan’s estimated costs for the new building. Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott said it was an easy decision.
“The old utility building was built on a landfill and it was disintegrating,” he said. “We spent a lot of money just trying to prop it up for a few years and that’s the reason we have to build a new center. It’s long overdue. The safety of our employees in that building was compromised, and that’s why we had to make this move. It’s been a long time getting it done.”
The project has a completion date of Oct. 1, 2026.
