Portions of 56th street to close for utility work next week

    August 16, 20242 Mins Read

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Starting this Sunday, Aug. 18, Lincoln Transportation and Utilities will be closing portions of 56th street for utility work by Lincoln Electric System.

Between 3 and 9 p.m., the intersection of 56th and Pioneers Boulevard will be closed.

LTU recommends taking the following detours to avoid the closure:

    • Northbound traffic: Van Dorn Street to 48th Street to Nebraska Parkway
    • Southbound traffic: Nebraska Parkway to 48th Street to Van Dorn Street
    • Eastbound traffic: 48th Street to Normal Boulevard to 70th Street
    • Westbound traffic: 70th Street to Old Cheney Road to Nebraska Parkway to 48th Street

Then throughout next week, daily closures will also occur on 56th street starting at 8 a.m. The roads will reopen when work is finished in the evening.

Those closures will be as follows:

    • Monday, Aug. 19: 56th Street between “A” and South streets. The recommended detour is “A” Street to 48th Street to South Street.
    • Tuesday, Aug. 20: A southbound lane of 56th Street between South and Van Dorn streets.
    • Wednesday, Aug. 21: A southbound lane of 56th Street between Van Dorn Street and Pioneers Boulevard.
    • Thursday, Aug. 22: A southbound lane of 56th Street between Pioneers Boulevard and Elkcrest Drive.

LTU encourages drivers to find alternate routes and be cautious around the closures, which are subject to change depending on weather or unforeseen circumstances.
