Stock market holiday in September: Are NSE, BSE open on September 5? Check complete list of market holidays – Market News

    September 4, 20252 Mins Read

Festivities are underway in many parts of India on September 5. Eid-e-Milad and Onam are being celebrated. However, markets are not closed on this occasion. Trade across BSE, NSE will continue as always, with the markets opening at 9:15 am.

In fact, the Maharashtra Government has shifted the money market holiday on account of Eid-e-Milad to September 8 from September 5, as announced earlier. This essentially means that settlement will proceed on schedule on September 5. The money markets will stay shut on September 8 instead.

Stock market holidays in September, October

However, for the share market, it is trading as usual for the rest of the weekdays this month, meaning there are no holidays in September 2025. The next trading holiday is on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. However, those looking for an extra holiday in October on account of Dussehra are in for some disappointment, though. This year, Dussehra is on Gandhi Jayanti.

As a result, October 2 is the next market holiday. The markets will be shut on October 22 as well, the day after Diwali. That completes the list of market holidays in October.

    Muhurat trading in October 2025

However, there is a special session of trading in October on Diwali day- October 21. Muhurat Trading will be underway that day between 6:15-7:15 pm. This is a special trading session coinciding with the auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja. Most market participants actively take part in this Muhurat trade.

    Market holidays later this year

For the rest of the year, markets are going to stay shut for a day each in November and December. November 5 is a trading holiday to mark Guru Nanak’s birthday, while trading is shut on December 25 on account of Christmas. Interestingly, Christmas is one day when most markets, globally, are shut.
