Is the US stock market open on Columbus Day? – Investing Abroad News

    October 13, 20252 Mins Read

The US stock market will be open for regular trading on Columbus Day. Monday, October 13, will be a usual business day for US stock market, and it will not be closed in honor of Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

However, the Federal Reserve and many institutions will be closed in observance of the Columbus Day 2025 holiday. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association has announced that the US bond market will be closed.

Despite being a federal holiday, Columbus Day does not affect the stock market’s business hours. Monday’s regular trading hours for the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Exchange are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Stock market holidays are non-weekend working days when the two main U.S. stock exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq, are closed.

In October, there are no scheduled holidays of the NYSE and Nasdaq and the trading will happen on all weekdays as usual. The next US stock market holiday falls on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 2025.

On Monday, US stock futures rose after Trump suggested he may reduce tariffs on China, stating trade relations with Beijing will be fine. Vice President JD Vance also echoed this, stating the US is ready to negotiate if China is willing to be reasonable.

Trump’s warning of a “massive” tariff hike led to a market decline after Beijing introduced new export controls on rare earths crucial for semiconductor and electric vehicle production.

The Earnings season has begun for the US stock market. Investors now await earnings results from major banks later this week, including from Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley.
