Matt Tebbutt’s quiet village life where average home price is £620,000

    March 13, 20253 Mins Read

Matt Tebbutt, the British chef and presenter, is known for his work on a variety of shows including BBC‘s Saturday Kitchen and Good Food channel’s Market Kitchen. And he may soon have another prestigious presenting job under his belt. There have been rumours that Matt is in ‘advanced’ talks with BBC bosses to replace Gregg Wallace on MasterChef.

Before he found TV fame, Matt ran The Foxhunter in Nant-y-derry alongside his wife, but decided to step away to concentrate on his television career. In a previous interview with the Mirror, he spoke about working closely with wife Lisa: “Working alongside each other was tough, but we’re still together. We worked well as a team – Lisa is great with people, whereas I’m the bolshie chef in the kitchen. She definitely wears the trousers, no question… followed by my daughter!” But what do we know about Matt Tebbutt’s life away from the cameras, and what has he shared with fans?

    Matt’s life and career

Born in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, Matt relocated to South Wales when he was just six months old.

He honed his culinary skills and earned a diploma at Leiths School of Food and Wine in London, before working under Marco Pierre White at the Oak Room and Criterio.

In addition to his chef duties and previous restaurant ownership, Matt has written Cooks Country: Modern British Rural Cooking and another book entitled Guilty Pleasures. In August 2024 he released a cookbook called Matt Tebbutt’s Pub Food: 100 Favourites, Old and New.

Matt lives with his wife Lisa, whom he married in 1999, and their two children, Henry and Jessie, in Llantilio Crossenny, Monmouthshire.

Their stunning home, complete with an idyllic garden, is located in this small village.

Speaking on the Grilled By The Staff Canteen podcast, Matt admitted the unusual way he met his wife: “I used to go out with her sister – next [question]! Fun fact.”

But despite the unusual start to their relationship, the couple often share happy snaps on social media, with Lisa wishing Matt a happy 25th wedding anniversary in a sweet post.

Matt often shares pictures of himself relaxing at home on social media. His traditional-style house boasts a large kitchen equipped with a range cooker, cream cupboards and a stainless steel sink.

The property also features a spacious shed, complete with a fully functional kitchen and a large island, ideal for gatherings and cooking up a storm.

Adding to its charm, the shed is adorned with fairy lights and atmospheric lighting above the island. He seems to enjoy country life, often tagging himself in photos of cosy country pubs or the great outdoors.

    Llantilio Crossenny

Llantilio Crossenny, where Matt lives with his family, is a quaint village nestled in the community of Whitecastle, southeast Wales.

This village is steeped in history, as evidenced by the discovery of an axe and a spear believed to be 3,000 years old, unearthed by metal detectorists in 2015.

The area boasts significant landmarks such as the 13th-century Church of St Teilo and White Castle, a ruin dating back to the Norman invasion of England in 1066. .

According to Rightmove, the average asking price for a property in Llantilio Crossenny stands at £620,000.

Meanwhile, Houses For Sale and To Rent puts the cost of properties in the area from £39,000 to £3,250,000,
