Many people assume that Bridge House in Stallard dates from the Georgian period but it was actually built in 1929 by Lord Holloway and was once used by a community trust charity,
The building close to Trowbridge Railway Station is spread over four floors and is currently occupied by Drawing Projects UK, formed in 2009 by Professor Anita Taylor.
Drawing Projects UK is a non-profit centre for research, development, production and promotion of exhibitions, events and workshops in drawing and contemporary art.
It houses 13 studios used by artists and also contains a 44-ft board room and a self-contained owner’s apartment that covers the entire first floor level, accessed via the sculpted staircase on the ground floor.
Bridge House has been put up for sale through London-based Unique Properties who have loaded a sales video onto YouTube.
Simon Stone, of Unique Properties, said: “With decisive design instructions and building work carried out in 1929, Bridge House bears the hallmarks of a far older historic space but in reality, it’s a structure that benefits from far more modern construction methods.
“Bridge House’s historic exterior styling is a complete contrast to the deco interiors which are a truer reflection of the building’s construction date.
With its historic style elevations, you might have an impression that the building’s three floors are covered with squeaky floorboards, connected by creaky stairs. Well, it’s simply not the case.
“The entire building’s concrete composition was a design detail that meant it withstood any attempted heist of the large amounts of cash stored here whilst serving as the community co-operative,” Mr Stone said.
A collection of 13 individual artist studios dominate the rear of the ground floor and there is parking for ten vehicles at the side of the property.
Mr Stone says the property could easily be converted into a more business-led use if required, whether that be on a communal/shared basis or one company looking to consolidate teams of people in one central place.
“The sheer scale of the ground floor means it would accommodate plenty of other ideas or opportunities to suit all manner of new innovative ventures,” he added.
