    Final passage of reduced property tax measure ends special session

    Lincoln, Neb. — Many lawmakers say they are proud of the passage of the centerpiece property tax reform measure during their special session that adjourned Tuesday, while expressing disappointment that they didn’t accomplish more.

    LB 34 was scaled down from Gov. Jim Pillen’s original property tax plan, but Sen. Lou Ann Linehan pointed out some key features of the bill, saying it will help the 40% to 45% of people that haven’t been claiming a tax credit who will now get it automatically. Another feature is caps…

    Another feature involves the tracking of General Fund net receipts which could be used to lower property taxes…

    Gov. Pillen, while signing the bill, emphasized that this is just the beginning and stated that he does not plan to call another special session on property taxes before the end of the year.
