Labour trying to ‘get us back to a better way of life’, says reader
Regarding those who accuse Sir Keir Starmer as being soft on China because we need their money (MetroTalk, Wed).
The Tories, under David Cameron, put Britain in this most vulnerable position in their push for austerity.
And it’s Labour that is trying (against the efforts of the Tories and Reform) to get us all back to some sort of better way of life, along with a more robust national security situation.
It’s not going to happen overnight. We suffered for 14 long year under the Tories. Give Labour the time to show they are (at least) trying. Craig M, Cheetham Hill

Digital IDs will be ‘hackers dream’, says reader
The cost of Labour’s plan to introduce digital ID – in part to combat the black economy, which is seen as a pull factor in illegal immigration – is predicted to be as much as £2billion.
It will be a hacker’s dream. And in a worse-case scenario, we could be heading toward a social credit system like in China and end up in a real-life episode of Black Mirror. Cara, Brighton
Reader notes disparity between quality of life and death for wagyu beef

I’ve seen horrendous footage on Facebook. Worse still are the livestock slaughtered under halal or kosher law that are not stunned first. This should be banned. We are supposed to be a nation of animal lovers but we are far from it. Lesley, Bristol
Reader questions why drones near prisons cannot be ‘shot down’
Regarding the military now being able to shoot down drones near their UK bases (Metro, Tue), why is this not allowed at prisons, where drones take in all manner of contraband? L Nicholl, London
‘Too little is being done by the government to combat the crisis in the nation’s mental health’, says reader
I agree with Sharon’s response to Ricky Hatton dying by hanging (MetroTalk, Tue) that too little is being done by the government to combat the crisis in the nation’s mental health. I had friends who have lost their lives due to having waited years to be helped. Craig Minto, Sheffield
Reader calls out owners of loud pets
Now is the season for owners of animals that compete in the 24/7 cacophany of loud barking to complain that their ‘fur babies’ are upset by bonfires and fireworks. Robby, Eccles

Ant (MetroTalk, Thurs) asks what the point is of the UK doing its bit for net zero if other far more polluting countries aren’t doing their bit.
If your mate starts going around killing people and you say, ‘Well, people are gonna die anyways, let me just join in’, is that going to make things any better? No – just more people are going to end up dead! Valentina, London
