Architecturally distinct homes listed across England

    September 18, 20262 Mins Read

Five properties with non-traditional facades have come to market across England, ranging from £495,000 to £850,000, highlighting continued demand for architecturally distinctive residential stock.

In Wivenhoe, Essex, a 2023-built property inspired by historic boat-building sheds has been listed at £850,000. The three-bedroom house features dark Siberian larch cladding beneath zinc roofs, with 11 roof lights and triple-glazed sliding doors. Aucoot is handling the sale.

A converted iron chapel dating from 1909 in Chester, Cheshire, is available for £495,000 through Strutt & Parker. The two-bedroom property underwent renovation in 2014, with tin walls replaced and a new insulated structure installed within the original framework. The property sits within one mile of Chester’s main station.

In Hackney Wick, London, a 2016-built townhouse within gated Trafalgar Mews is listed at £800,000. The three-storey property features black timber-effect cladding and includes two bedrooms, with a hydraulic roof terrace. Dexters is marketing the property, which is within walking distance of Victoria Park and Hackney Marshes.

A Passivhaus-certified property in Totnes, Devon, constructed with cork and Douglas fir, is listed at £595,000 through The Modern House. The three-bedroom house includes triple-glazing and mechanical ventilation systems, with balconies on two levels and access to a forest garden.

The listing activity comes as UK property sales have declined 7.3% year-on-year, with the market experiencing broader challenges. In Bath, Somerset, a mid-century semi-detached house with four bedrooms is available for £650,000, also through The Modern House. The property features 1960s-era terracotta tile cladding and has undergone renovation including new roof, electrics and central heating.

The properties are being marketed through a mix of traditional and specialist agencies, with estate agency job vacancies across England currently totalling around 1,300, reflecting ongoing recruitment activity in the sector.

The listings demonstrate continued supply of architecturally distinct properties across various price points in the English residential market, from converted historic structures to contemporary new-builds meeting modern environmental standards.
