Bitcoin Holders Near Breakeven as Long Positions Hit Record High

    August 11, 20263 Mins Read

    TLDR

    • Bitcoin trades near $65,200 as short-term holders approach breakeven
    • 30-day STH SOPR sits at 0.997, just under the neutral 1.0 mark
    • Long positions hit a record 361,000 BTC, worth about $23.4 billion
    • Spot demand has weakened even as futures open interest climbs
    • A push to $67,000 depends on spot support, while $62,000 stays exposed

Bitcoin is trying to stabilize near $65,200. Traders are watching short-term holder data closely to see if the recovery can hold.

The 30-day Short-Term Holder SOPR climbed to 0.997. That is just under the neutral level of 1.0.

This number shows whether short-term holders are selling at a profit or a loss. Right now, they are selling at a small loss.

That is different from March, when the ratio was near 0.98. Holders may be less willing to sell at these levels than they were back then.

Short-term holders have come close to breakeven before. This happened in January and again in May of this year.

Both times, the ratio fell back after nearing the 1.0 mark. That history raises questions about whether this attempt will hold either.

    Long Positions Reach a Record

Bitcoin’s recovery is also facing pressure from the futures market. Long exposure among traders reached a record high of 361,000 BTC.

Short exposure was lower, at less than 264,000 BTC. At the current price near $65,200, longs made up about 57.62% of all positions.

Large numbers of long positions are not automatically a warning sign. Bull markets often come with high exposure like this.

But the size of the current buildup stands out. At $23.4 billion, the long positions could face fast liquidations if prices drop.

A drop in price could force many of these positions to close at once. That kind of selling could add extra swings to the market.

    Spot Demand Lags Behind Futures

Futures activity has been picking up. The Futures Cumulative Volume Delta rose above 20,000 BTC as price approached $65,200.

Open interest also grew, reaching 108,000 contracts. This shows more traders are active in the futures market.

Spot demand tells a different story. The Spot CVD fell from about 3,800 BTC to 2,500 BTC since August 5.

Long-short ratios have also been falling during this period. This suggests some traders are pulling back from bullish bets.

Without stronger spot buying, a push toward $67,000 may rely mostly on futures activity. That leaves the rally without full support from real buyers.

The $62,000 level stays exposed if this gap between spot and futures demand continues. That gap remains the main factor to watch.

As of the latest data, Bitcoin was still trading near $65,200. Short-term holders remain close to breakeven, while long positions and weak spot demand continue to shape the outlook ahead.
