Happy Thursday. Stocks were falling and oil prices were climbing amid concerns about escalating conflict between the U.S. and Iran and increased spending across the technology sector.
Iran fired four missiles toward Jordan on Thursday, three of which were intercepted, the country’s armed forces said, CNN reported. U.S. strikes on Iran killed two people at the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iraq, Iranian state media reported.
Tesla (TSLA) and Google parent Alphabet (GOOG) were both falling ahead of the opening bell after reporting quarterly results on Wednesday.
The electric vehicle maker beat revenue forecasts but missed profit estimates. During Tesla’s second-quarter 2026 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk described 2026 as a “massive capex year.”
Alphabet beat second-quarter 2026 earnings expectations but raised its forecast for 2026 capital expenditures to as much as $205 billion.
In addition, European regulators fined the search engine giant 890 million euros ($1 billion), alleging the company gave preferential treatment to its own services, CNBC reported.
Intel (INTC), Lockheed Martin (LMT), Honeywell (HON), and American Airlines (AAL) are among the companies scheduled to report earnings today.
Stocks closed lower on Wednesday amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and rising oil prices.
