United Utilities reflects on support for community projects in Cumbria

    November 25, 20252 Mins Read

Even in winter, when venturing outdoors can feel like a challenge, community projects continue to operate across Cumbria, providing meaningful opportunities for people to come together, stay active, and make a positive change.

From litter-picking groups and youth nature clubs to conservation volunteers and environmental education projects, the Community Fund aims to encourage active participation across all ages.

United Utilities’ Community Fund is part of its broader ambition to make the region’s rivers beautiful and to support the people who care for them, ensuring that the North West’s waterways can be enjoyed safely and sustainably for generations to come.

United Utilities has helped organisations in the Cumbria area, such as The North West Ocean School, Penrith Swift Group, Wasdale Valley Volunteers and The Windermere, Ambleside and District Angling Association.

These organisations, alongside others across the Northwest, are helping to nurture environmental awareness and community spirit by protecting local habitats and encouraging people of all ages to take an active role in caring for the local surroundings.

Adele Dismore, Catchment Manager at United Utilities, commented: “Across Cumbria, it’s been inspiring to see how community groups have come together over the past year to protect and enhance the places we all cherish. Their dedication to keeping our towns, rivers and coastlines clean is making a real difference for future generations.

“It’s been a privilege to work alongside so many passionate volunteers who give their time to safeguard our natural spaces. From village clean-ups to riverbank restoration days, the efforts of local groups show just how much pride people here take in their environment.”
