Sensex Today: Benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty50, opened lower on Monday, with a decline in IT stocks contributing to the downward trend. At 10 AM, the BSE Sensex was at 82,523, a decrease of 103 points (0.12%), and the NSE Nifty 50 was at 25,317, a decrease of 10 points (0.12%).

IT sector shares were the primary cause of the market’s decline following the US announcement of a new, one-time $100,000 fee for H-1B visas.

On the BSE, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, TCS, and HCL Technologies were the top losers. Power Grid, Bajaj Finance, and UltraTech Cement were the leading gainers. Similarly, on the NSE, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, TCS, and HCL Technologies were the main drags, while Adani Enterprises, Adani Ports, and HDFC Life were the top gainers.

Broader markets also experienced a dip, with the Nifty SmallCap down 0.25% and the Nifty MidCap down 0.19%.

Sector-wise, the Nifty IT index saw a significant drop of 3%, followed by Nifty Mid-Small IT and telecom, both down 1.75%. Nifty Pharma and Consumer Durables also fell by almost 0.25%. In contrast, Nifty Auto, Media, and Metal were among the sectors that saw gains.

    Global Cues

Across Asia, markets traded higher following a positive call between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping ahead of the APEC summit. Japan’s Nikkei gained 1.4% after the Bank of Japan announced plans to pare back its ETF holdings, while South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.9%.

On Wall Street, stocks closed higher Friday on expectations of further Fed rate cuts. The S&P 500 climbed 0.49% and the Nasdaq 0.72%.
