Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Indian stock market extended its gains for the second consecutive week, with both the Sensex and Nifty rising around 1% each. IT stocks led the rally, with the Nifty IT index climbing over 2%, while financials also saw healthy gains, pushing the Nifty Bank index up nearly 2%. However, midcaps underperformed, with the Midcap Index ending the week flat.
Despite the week’s gains, the market failed to sustain its opening strength on Friday, closing lower amid volatility. The Sensex dropped 192 points to 77,415, while the Nifty slipped 73 points to settle at 23,519. The Nifty Bank index saw a marginal decline of 11 points to 51,565, and the Midcap Index shed 167 points to close at 51,672.
IT stocks dragged the market lower, with TCS, HCL Tech, and Wipro losing 2-4%. Auto stocks also traded weak ahead of monthly sales data, with Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki among the top losers. However, financial heavyweights like Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank continued to attract buying interest, gaining 1-2%.
