bp pulse & Simon Property to build charging infrastructure across the US

    July 11, 20242 Mins Read

bp pulse has announced a charging infrastructure partnership with the Simon Property Group, the largest shopping mall operator in the US. The partnership will see the installation and operation of over 900 ultra-fast charging points at 75 locations across the USA. The first of these locations will be open to the public from the beginning of 2026.

The charging stations can be found and accessed via bp pulse’s app and a webpage operated by the Simon Property Group, and bp pulse’s proprietary energy management solution, Omega, will optimize energy usage on-site. It is not clear from the communication, but it is likely that the charging stations installed will be Tesla superchargers, as BP placed a major order worth 100 million US dollars in late 2023.

“We’re pleased to complete this deal with Simon and expand our ultra-fast charging network footprint in the US,” said Richard Bartlett, CEO of bp pulse, adding: “The Simon portfolio aligns with bp pulse’s strategy to deploy ultra-fast charging across the West Coast, East Coast, Sun Belt and Great Lakes, and we are thrilled to team up with Simon so that EV drivers have a range of retail offerings at their impressive destinations.”

The Simon Property Group is no newcomer to the field of EV charging, as the largest shopping mall operator in the US had signed a partnership with Mercedes-Benz HPC North America to help set up an HPC network in the USA.

The USA is not the only location where bp pulse is active, however, as the company has announced charging infrastructure projects around the globe. Early last year, bp pulse had opened its largest charging hub in the UK yet, just before launching on the French market. Since then, however, the company has slowed down on its ambitions, announcing in April that it would focus on four core markets, rather than expanding simultaneously in twelve markets, it would concentrate on markets where it expects the fastest growth, namely the US, the UK, China, and Germany.
